Saudi Arabia, Russia ink roadmap for atomic energy cooperation

Russia and Saudi Arabia have signed a roadmap to cooperate in the atomic energy sector, Reuters reported on Thursday, citing Russian state nuclear company Rosatom.

 

The roadmap includes a number of steps required to implement a cooperation program, signed by both countries during King Salman's visit to Russia in October.

 

Saudi Arabia, which seeks to reduce domestic oil consumption, is considering the construction of nuclear plants to generate 17.6 gigawatts of electricity by 2032. The Kingdom has invited international suppliers to participate in the construction of two reactors.

 

Last month, Rosatom said it hoped to win the Saudi tender.
