Water project launched in Abha at SAR 1.4 bln

A new water project was launched today in Abha at a total cost of SAR 1.4 billion, state-owned news agency SPA reported.

The project, which has a capacity of 108,000 cubic meters per day, will transfer water from Rub al-Khali to Bishah and Tathleeth through a 355-km-long pipeline.

Twenty contracts were awarded within the project, including setting desalination plant in Al Wajeed and digging 28 wells in the same region.

Nearly 68,000 cubic meters per day of raw water is available to the plant.

In addition to the Abha project, the governor of Asir region, Faisal bin Khalid, also approved 15 projects within the National Transformation Program (NTP) 2020, aimed at optimizing the ground water resources, increasing the strategic water storage, and providing sewage services in Abha and other governorates.

The strategic water storage facilities in Abha, with a capacity of 240,000 cubic meters, were recently completed at a total cost of SAR 123 million.
