Egypt’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has called on firms to participate in a bid for the Ras Sidr Airport build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract in July 2, MEED reported, citing unnamed sources.

The government first announced the airport in 2015 and allocated land for its establishment. In the following two years, several consortiums expressed interest in developing the project.

The airport will be located in western Sinai, a popular destination among local tourists, MEED reported.

Moreover, the Egyptian Airports Company (EAC) intends to inaugurate a new airport, the Sphinx International, by in the third quarter of 2018. It will be located on Cairo-Alexandria desert road, with a capacity up to 600 passengers an hour.

EAC also plans to tender the contract for a new passenger terminal at Alexandria’s Borg el-Arab airport in June.
