Saudi anti-corruption committee recovers SAR 400 bln assets

Saudi investigators have retrieved assets – in the form of property, companies, cash and securities - worth more than SAR 400 billion to the state treasury as part of the anti-corruption campaign launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in 2017.

A total of 381 people were summoned by the government, of whom some appeared to be just witnesses, the Royal Court said in a statement on Wednesday. 

A comprehensive review was conducted of the case against each detainee, under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor.

Settlements were reached with 87 people who confessed the charges leveled against them, the statement added. 

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecutor rejected settlement with 56 people, who are facing criminal charges.

Eight people, convicted of corruption, refused settlement. They have been referred to Public Prosecution for further action under the law.

Other detainees who were not indicted on corruption charges have been released, the Royal Court added.

Having completed its tasks, the anti-corruption committee set up by Prince Mohammed submitted its report to King Salman on Wednesday.

King Salman pledged that the Kingdom would “continue its efforts to preserve integrity, combat corruption, and empower law enforcement and other relevant state bodies so that they are able to effectively practice their role in preserving public funds.”
