Saudi transport ministry implements SAR 2 bln road projects in Al Ahsa

The Saudi Ministry of Transport has invested SAR 1.9 billion in 12 road projects, extending 607 kilometers (km), in the Al Ahsa region, Bader Al Dulami, the deputy minister for roads, said during the Al-Ahsa Investment Forum.

The ministry also implemented preventive maintenance work of existing road projects with an estimated length of 2,651 km, as well as raising the safety level, at a value of SAR 446 million in order to upgrade the quality of life and ease of movement.

“Four important projects have been completed last year including the final part of the border road to Oman, extending for 190 km, at a total cost of SAR 1 billion,” Al Dulami said.

The ministry is currently implementing a project to divert all cargo trains outside the city of Hofuf. This will reduce the intersections, as it will achieve greater flow of traffic and reduce downtime on the surface intersections as well as reduce the percentage of inconvenience caused by the cargo of the trains by 85 percent.

“Upon the completion of the project, no intersections or tunnels will be required in the future,” Al Dulami added.
 
The deputy minister also pointed out that coordination is going on to establish a public transport network covering the Al-Ahsa province.
