Nasdaq, S&P 500 score record close for second consecutive session
The majority of US stock indices rose during the brief trading session, on June 3, amid anticipation of the minutes of the Federal Reserve meeting and the outlook for monetary policy.
Dow Jones Industrial Average stabilized to close at 39,308 points.
The S&P 500 index gained 28 points, or 0. 5%, to finish at 5,537. The Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 159 points, or 0.9%, to end at 18,188. The two benchmarks extended their gains for the second consecutive session.
As for the European indices, STOXX Europe 600 increased 0.75%, to 514.6 points, the highest since June 26 (514.8 points).
FTSE 100 inched up 0.6% to 8,171 points, while DAX advanced 1.15% to 18,374 points, CAC 40 rose 1.25% to 7,632 points.
The Nikkei index gained 506 points, or 1.25%, to close at 40,580 points, the highest since March 27, while TOPIX inched up 0.55% to 2,872 points.
In the oil market, futures contracts for Brent crude for September delivery rose by 1.3%, or $1.1, to $87.34 per barrel.
Meanwhile, prices of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil for August delivery inched up 1.3%, or $1.07, to $83.88 per barrel.
Gold futures prices for August delivery increased by 1.55%, or $36, to $2,369.4 per ounce.
According to the US Institute of Supply Management (ISM) data, economic activity in the services sector shrank in June, recording a decline for the second time in the past three months, the employment index dropped for the sixth time in seven months, while new orders retreated for the first time since December 2022.
