The US stocks were hit by sell-off pressures on Aug. 26 as treasury yields got higher, and the tech stocks dragged down. Investors are anticipating Nvidia earnings report to determine the artificial intelligence (AI) potential development.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.15%, or 65 points, to 41,240 points, to hit a new record for the 23rd time this year. 

 

The S&P 500 slipped 0.3%, or 17 points to 5,616,  while the Nasdaq Composite sank 0.85%, or 152 points, to end the day at 17,725. 

 

The tech stocks closed in the negative territory, as Nvidia, Broadcom and Micron fell 2.25%, 4% and 3.86%, respectively. 

 

As for the European indices, STOXX Europe 600 remained unchanged at 518 points, after touching 519.95 points amid downward pressures resulting from losses incurred by tech stocks and banks.  

 

DAX 40 decreased 0.1% to 18,617 points, and CAC 40 added 0.2% to 7,590 points. London bourse was closed for a banking holiday and will resume trading on Aug. 27. 

 

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.65% to 38,110 points. TOPIX slipped by 0.85%, to 2,661 points. 

In the oil market, futures contracts for Brent crude for October delivery rose by over 3%, or $2.41, to $81.43 per barrel. 

  

Meanwhile, prices of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil for October delivery jumped 3.45%, or $2.59, to $77.42 per barrel. 

   

As for gold, futures prices for the yellow metal for December delivery inched up 0.35%, or $8.9 to $2,555 per ounce, marking a new high for the 7th time in August.
