Dow Jones hits new record high in August as stocks rally
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at a record high for the second time in August, gaining around 10 points to reach 41,250 after dipping to 41,109 points.
S&P 500 rose 0.15%, or 8 points, to 5,625 points, while the Nasdaq Composite inched up 0.15%, or 29 points, to end the day at 17,754 points.
As for the European indices, STOXX Europe 600 advanced 0.15% to 518.8 points, its highest level since July 12 (524 points).
CAC 40 slipped 0.3% to 7,565 points. DAX 40 increased 0.35% to 18,681 points, and FTSE 100 gained 0.2% to 8,345 points.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.45% to 38,288 points. TOPIX advanced 0.75%, to 2,680 points.
In the oil market, futures contracts for Brent crude for October delivery declined by 2.3%, or $1.88, to $79.55 per barrel.
Meanwhile, prices of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil for October delivery fell 2.45%, or $1.89, to $75.53 per barrel.
As for gold, futures prices for the yellow metal for December delivery inched down 0.1%, or $2.3 to $2,552 per ounce.
