Dow Jones surpasses 43,000, closes at all-time high
The US stocks extended gains on Oct. 14 for the fifth week in a row, amid optimism for Q3 earnings.
Dow Jones Industrial Average inched up by 0.45%, or 201 points, to close at a record high of 43,065 points. The index added 1,040 points in 17 sessions after crossing the 42,000-level for the first time on Sept. 19.
S&P 500 rose 0.75%, or 44 points to 5,859 points—the third record close during Q4, while the Nasdaq Composite inched up 0.85%, or 159 points, to end the day at 18,502 points.
As for the European indices, STOXX Europe 600 advanced 0.55%, to 524.7 points, its highest level in 11 sessions.
FTSE 100 gained 0.45% to 8,292 points, DAX 40 increased 0.7% to hit a record of 19,508 points, while CAC 40 advanced 0.3% to 7,602 points.
In Japan, stock markets were closed for the Health and Sports Day. Trading will resume on Oct. 15.
In the oil market, futures contracts for Brent crude for December delivery declined by 2%, or $1.58, to $77.46 per barrel.
Meanwhile, prices of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil for November delivery fell 2.3%, or $1.73, to $73.83 per barrel.
As for gold, futures prices for the yellow metal for December delivery inched down 0.4%, or $10.7 to $2,665 per ounce.
