US stocks end in green ahead of Trump’s tariff announcement
US stock indices ended higher as markets awaited President Donald Trump's announcement of new tariffs, which the White House confirmed would take effect immediately.
Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.55%, or 235 points, to 42,225 points, rising from 41,629 points.
Meanwhile, S&P 500 Index increased 0.65%, or 37 points, to 5,670 points. Nasdaq Composite advanced about 0.85%, or 54 points, or 151 points, to 17,601 points.
As for the European indices, STOXX Europe 600 shed 0.5% to 536.9 points.
FTSE 100 fell 0.3% to 8,608 points, and DAX 40 dropped 0.65% to 22,390 points. CAC 40 lost 0.2% to 7,858 points.
In Japan, Nikkei 225 inched up 0.3% to 35,725 points, while TOPIX retreated 0.45% to 2,650 points.
In the oil market, futures contracts for Brent crude for June delivery edged up 0.6%, or $0.46, to $74.95 per barrel.
Meanwhile, prices of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil for May delivery added 0.7%, or $0.51, to $71.71 per barrel.
As for gold, futures prices for the yellow metal for June delivery gained 0.65%, or $20.2 to $3,166.2 per ounce, hitting an all-time high.
