POS transactions fall 8% to SAR 7.51 bln in the week ending Jan. 23

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions fell by 8% to SAR 7.51 billion in the week ending Jan. 23, 2021, from SAR 8.18 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 72.5 million transactions were processed in the week ending Jan. 23, 2021.

All sectors witnessed a decline in POS sales during the week except for the Education sector, which rose by 190% to SAR 406.1 million.
Hotels sector fell the most by 34% to SAR 154.6 million. It was followed by Clothes & Footwear sector which dropped by 22%.
Consumer spending focused on the Food & Beverages sector during the week, valued at nearly SAR 1.09 billion, followed by the Restaurants & Cafes sector with SAR 982.6 million and the Miscellaneous Goods & Services sector with SAR 596.02 million.
