Saudi energy ministry announces details of 7 new renewable energy projects

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Energy announced the details of the seven renewable energy projects signed today, April 8, 2021, and their implementing companies, as follows: 

- 1,500 megawatts (MW) Sudair project, which is developed by Public Investment Fund (PIF) and its strategic partner ACWA Power that leads the consortium.  
 

- Qurayyat and Shuaiba projects that are executed by a consortium, comprising ACWA Power, Gulf Investment Co. and Al-Babtain Contracting. The two projects have a production capacity of 200 MW and 600 MW, respectively. 

- Jeddah project, which is implemented by a consortium of Masdar, YDF, and Nesma, with a capacity of 300 MW. 
 

- Rabigh project, which is implemented by the consortium of Marubeni and Al Jomaih Energy, with a capacity of 300 MW. 
 

- Rafha and Madinah Solar PV IPP, which are implemented by the consortium of Al Blagha Group, Alfanar, Desert Technology, with a capacity reaching 20 MW and 50 MW, respectively. 
 

Thus, the aggregate capacities of these projects, plus those of Sakaka and Dumat Al-Jandal projects in Al-Jouf, reach 3,670 MW, according to the ministry. 
 

It also said that the new projects will be implemented through independent power producer (IPP), and the energy produced will be bought under 20-25 year power purchase agreements (PPA), signed with Saudi Power Procurement Co. (SPPC).

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced earlier today, April 8, the inauguration of Sakaka IPP PV in Al-Jouf and the signing of PPA for seven new projects.
