Ministry of Industry says number of productive factories rises 5% to 8,155 in Q1 2021
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources announced that the number of productive factories increased to 8,155 in the first quarter of 2021, with an estimated capital of SAR 1.06 trillion, an increase of 5%, compared to the same period in 2020.
Licensed workers in these factories decreased 1% to 961,600, according to the Q1 2021 statistical bulletin on industrial licenses issued by the National Industrial Information Center (NIIC).

These factories were distributed among 24 activities, led by chemicals and chemical products in terms of capital at SAR 407.9 billion, followed by non-metallic products with a capital of SAR 177.8 billion.
With regards to the number of factories, other non-metallic products came on top with 1,617 plants, followed by plastic and rubber products with 1,068 factories.
Other non-metallic products also ranked first in terms of licensed workers at 172,600, followed by the food products with 146,200 workers.

According to the report, Q1 saw the licensing of 308 new factories with an estimated capital of SAR 17.7 billion, and employment of 11,800 workers.
A total of 141 factories started production with a capital of SAR 10.9 billion and 8,100 workers, while 69 plants ceased operations worth a capital of SAR 809 million, as indicated in the following table:

As many as 1,793 factories with a capital of SAR 66.8 billion were under construction, employing 85,300 workers.
Other non-metallic products came on top with 365 factories and a capital of SAR 6.6 billion, followed by food products with 230 factories.
