Makkah bus project recorded 100,000 users since the start of its trial operation, through the recently-launched four lanes – 6, 7A, 12 and 7, Saudi Press Agency reported.
 

More than 40 buses were operated on the lanes every day, while additional 40 buses were put on standby in case of a larger number of users, especially during rush hour.
 

The operational hours of the trips exceeded 22 hours, with the first bus leaving at 4:00 a.m. every day. The last trip of the day takes place at 2:00 a.m. The operating team consists of 500 employees, including drivers, operational staff, mechanics and a support team.
 

Work is also underway to launch the remaining routes during the next phase of the project, which will serve new destinations in Makkah over the next two months to reach several educational, health and commercial facilities.
 

On Feb. 15, the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites (RCMC), through the Unified Transport Center in Makkah, launched the trial operation of the first phase of the public bus project in Makkah. The second phase was launched in mid-March.
 

The bus network in Makkah city is distributed over 12 routes, served by about 425 stops and four main stations in the central region.
 

The public bus transport network in Makkah covers most of the city's areas, with 400 buses for the first phase, including 240 standard buses (12 meters) and 160 articulated buses (18 meters), all of which are German-made, according to data available to Argaam.
