Transfer of Saudi postal sector duties to Transport Ministry enhances investment integration: Alswaha

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Alswaha said that the Cabinet's approval to transfer the postal sector’s supervisory and regulatory competences from the “communications and information technology system” to the “transport and logistics system” will provide advanced postal and logistics services, and promote integration in investment and customer experience.

The decision was driven by the global orientation of the sector. It also comes in line with the developments the Kingdom witnesses and the National Transport Strategy to improve the position of the postal and logistics services sector, being one of the enabling sectors of Vision 2030, the minister added according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Additionally, he pointed out that the two systems work as a team to confirm this smooth transition and ensure the provision of the best services in line with the highest international standards. The communications and information technology system has been able to accomplish many achievements and gains, including enabling the market to grow by 29% to nearly SAR 6.7 billion.

The number of licensed companies reached 145 companies with a growth rate of 1,511%, while foreign investments rose 15.4% to SAR 6 billion. The number of delivery workers through electronic platforms also increased to 190,800.

According to data compiled by Argaam, the Saudi Cabinet approved, on July 26, in a meeting chaired by King Salman bin Abdulaziz, transferring the supervision of the postal sector to the Ministry of Transport and Logistics Services.
