POS transactions hit SAR 13.8 bln in week ended June 3: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 13.82 billion in the week ended June 3, compared to SAR 10.7 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
POS value during the past week was the highest in about three months - since the week ended on March 4, when the sales value amounted to SAR 14.57 billion.
Data showed that about 188.59 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors reported a positive performance, except for hotels, which reported a decrease of 4%.
Education was the highest performer, with a rise of 50%, followed by telecommunications (49%), and clothes and footwear (44%).
During the week, consumer spending focused on food and beverages at SAR 2.23 billion and restaurants and cafes at nearly SAR 2.02 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in terms of value with almost SAR 4.45 billion, or 32% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.94 billion, as indicated below:
