Point-of-sale (POS) transactions in Saudi Arabia totaled approximately SAR 14.77 billion for the week ended March 9, compared to SAR 16.21 billion in the previous week.

The number of POS transactions reached about 206.23 million last week, according to data issued by SAMA.
POS transactions represent consumer expenditures through debit and credit cards at major shopping centers, retail outlets, pharmacies, and others.

During the week, all sectors saw a decrease in POS except for the education sector, which soared by 186% week-on-week (WoW).
The jewelry and telecommunications sectors led decliners after falling by 19% each, followed by the hotels sector (17%) and the health sector (15%).
Consumer spending was focused on the food and beverage sector, totaling SAR 2.67 billion during the week. The restaurants and cafes sector trailed with total POS transactions worth SAR 1.96 billion, as follows:
