POS weekly transactions decline to SAR 11.4B: SAMA

Point-of-sale (POS) transactions in Saudi Arabia totaled approximately SAR 11.35 billion in the week ended April 13, up from SAR 16.54 billion in the previous week.

The number of POS transactions reached about 179.22 million last week, according to data issued by SAMA.
POS transactions represent consumer expenditures through debit and credit cards at major shopping centers, retail outlets, pharmacies, and others.

During the week, all sectors saw a decline in the value of POS transactions except for the restaurants and cafes sector, where transaction value rose by 17% week-on-week (WoW).
The education sector saw the lowest POS transaction value, which dropped by 87%. The transportation sector came in second with a 63% decrease, followed by the construction and building materials sector with a 62% decline.
Consumer spending was focused on the restaurants and cafes sector, totaling SAR 2.15 billion during the week. The food and beverage (F&B) sector trailed with total POS transactions worth SAR 1.71 billion, as follows:
