Saudi Arabia achieves self-sufficiency in dairy production: Ministry

Saudi Arabia has achieved self-sufficiency in dairy production, with output exceeding 2.6 million tons, ensuring ample supply in local markets, particularly during Ramadan, the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture said.

In a statement, the ministry said that the kingdom attained a 129% self-sufficiency rate in dairy products in 2023, reinforcing its position as a key producer in the sector. It reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing quality by supporting local investments, ensuring market availability, and improving product standards in line with Saudi Vision 2030 targets.

The livestock sector is a key pillar in supporting dairy production in the Kingdom, as it includes more than 7.4 million heads of goats and nearly 502,000 heads of cows, which helps meet the needs of the local market of milk and its derivatives. The sector is witnessing remarkable progress through the adoption of the latest technologies in livestock breeding and animal production, which boosts productive efficiency and ensures the sustainability of resources, according to the statement.
