Saudi Arabia to offer health insurance to all citizens in five years: Minister

Saudi Arabia will provide medical insurance coverage with free healthcare services to all citizens within four or five years, health minister Tawfiq Al-Rabiah told Rotana Khalijia TV on Monday.

“A specialized national insurance center will offer insurance policies to all citizens” Al-Rabiah said.

The health ministry is looking to offer an integrated insurance coverage based on preventive health services for all Saudis.

Hospitals, health centers and other specialist facilities will be converted into 20 integrated medical complexes across the Kingdom, each serving nearly one million citizens.

“Under the new healthcare model, Saudi Arabia will deliver medical services for everyone at place,” he added.

The Saudi Vision 2030 is looking to achieve a qualitative shift in health services to raise peoples’ average life span to 80 years from 74 years.

Meanwhile, Al-Rabiah concluded the public hospitals still have average performance amid current shortage, adding that primary health centers have more development opportunities.
