Bahrain plans to roll-out commercial 5G by June

Bahrain will launch 5G commercial services by June, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed said in a statement on Tuesday.

 

All of the regulatory hurdles to fullfil 5G implementation have been resolved, with the licensing and spectrum allocation set to be finalized by mid-April by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, he added.

 

Successful commercial trials for 5G technology were held in June 2018 and all the operators are preparing to provide commercial 5G services which will be ready to go when consumer handsets become available, the statement noted. 

 

The announcement comes just a month after Saudi Telecom Company (STC) and Ericsson signed a deal to launch a mid-band 5G network in Saudi Arabia.
