Mada installs 4,000 e-payment devices in fuel stations

The Saudi Payments Network (Mada) has installed 4,000 e-payment devices in several fuel and service stations across the Kingdom, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported on Thursday, citing managing director Ziad Al-Yousef.

“The move, which comes ahead of ordering all fuel stations to use e-payment options next week, aims to facilitate e-payments and reduce cash transactions,” Al-Yousef said.

“Saudi Arabia will next apply e-payments in small and medium-sized enterprises, such as food trucks. Mada system will come into force to replace cash transactions with digital payments,” he added.

Al-Yousef also noted that banks are ready to install more devices at these facilities upon request of merchants.

Petrol stations in Saudi Arabia will start using e-payment options as of July 17, 2019, Argaam reported.
