Saudi Customs Authority has started to apply the principle of reciprocity on the imports of countries that impose restrictions or obstacles on Saudi exports, in violation of bilateral, regional or international agreements.
As per a cabinet decision, the principle of reciprocity will be implemented in accordance with the barriers imposed by these countries so as to ensure their compliance with the agreements, without any legal consequences for the Kingdom.
The decision was posted on the official gazette on Friday, instructing Saudi customs to coordinate duly with the Ministry of Commerce and Investment and related parties.
The move came after the Council of Economic and Development Affairs (CEDA) presented to the cabinet a study showing the Kingdom’s current exports/imports status, challenges and future steps.
