SAMA ready to receive complaints against banks not complying with e-payments, says official

The Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA), the Kingdom's central bank, currently enables customers to submit complaints against banks not complying with e-payment services, Okaz newspaper has reported, citing Talaat Hafez, secretary-general of the Media and Banking Awareness Committee of Saudi Banks.

 

Hafez added that point-of-sale (POS) can now file objections against the banks that are delaying the installment or maintenance of online payment devices.

 

He also said that ensuring the commitment of different sectors to provide e-payment options poses a key challenge. 

 

Saudi POSs will officially start using e-payment options in all business segments as of August 25, 2020, according to the Commercial Anti-Concealment National Program.

The Anti-Concealment National Program mapped out a six-phase plan for all POSs to gradually deploy the e-payment options as of July 14. 

 

Petrol stations in Saudi Arabia also started using e-payment options as of July 17, 2019.
