Dubai-based Careem has expanded food delivery service to Makkah aiming to consolidate its reach across Saudi Arabia, it said in a statement on Monday.
The service, currently available in Jeddah and Riyadh, will also be offered to 1.5 million residents in Makkah, who will be able to order food via “Careem Now” mobile application.
"Only 15 percent of the food delivery market in the region currently operates via an app,” Adeeb Warsi, managing director of Careem Now said.
Careem Now allows users to order from more than 100 restaurants in the city and ensures rapid door-to-door delivery, he added.
In March, US-based ride-hailing app Uber acquired Careem for $3.1 billion.
