Almarai Company has successfully completed its SAR 44.4 million Al Kharj solar project, making it the largest ground mount photovoltaic (PV) installation operating in the Kingdom, it said in a bourse filing on Wednesday.
With a 15 MW of installed capacity and comprising more than 44,000 solar panels, the project will produce 28 GW hours of clean renewable energy per year.
The solar project will offset 8100 tons of CO2 each year, equivalent to planting of more than 8,000 trees, the statement added.
By the end of 2020, Almarai is planning to increase its solar PV installations across the Middle East and North Africa region, supplying approximately 10 percent of its total electricity from renewables.
