Saudi Arabia signs MoU to boost salt farming

The Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Abdel Rahman Al-Fadhli, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) to enhance the efforts in the fields of developing research and production systems of saline agriculture, conservation and sustainable management of the environment.

 

The MoU includes the utilization of the center’s expertise in the fields of capacity building, agricultural and environmental studies and research, and natural resources, Saudi Press Agency reported.

 

It will particularly focus on the fields of vegetation development, combating desertification, adapting to climate change, holding capacity development programs for Saudi technicians and farmers, in addition to resettling, implementing and developing production systems of saline agriculture.

 

The ministry stressed that cooperation to accomplish projects, programs and technologies that achieve sustainable development was essential to secure the sector’s future.
