Saudi Arabia to set up nuclear R&D center with South Korea

Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KA Care) has signed an agreement to establish and operate a research and development (R&D) center with Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute (Kaeri).

The center will act as part of the Vision 2030 economic diversification mandate to expand the use of renewables in the national energy mix, Saudi Press Agency reported.

The agreement was signed at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) headquarters by KA Care’s president, Dr Khalid bin Saleh Al-Sultan, and Kaeri president, Won Seok Park.

“The agreement will define the framework required for the formation and operation of the research center, and for cooperation between Saudi Arabia and South Korea in peaceful nuclear R&D,” report said.
