The first phase of King Salman Energy Park (SPARK) is almost 40% complete, Al Eqtisadiah newspaper reported, citing Einas Al Ashgar, vice president for operations at Energy City Development Co., the project’s main developer.

“The first phase is expected to be delivered by mid-2021,” Al Ashgar added.

About 20 international and local companies have signed contracts to invest in the project, which contributed towards covering about 70% of the lands designated for investment in the first phase, she said.

The companies operate in the industrial or energy related fields including exploration, refining, treatment, electrical power, and petrochemicals to name a few.

In March, Schlumberger will begin its operations at SPARK as the first investment company in the project, whereas a second company is scheduled to commence work by the end of this year.

According to data compiled by Argaam, the city, located between Dammam and Al-Ahsa, is set to be developed in 3 stages over a total area of 50 square kilometers. The project includes 5 main zones, namely the industrial zone, dry port, business area, training area as well as residential and commercial areas.
