Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) announced that a consortium comprising French multinational utility group Engie and Mowah Company is the preferred bidder to build the Yanbu-4 independent water project (IWP).
The project, which will use reverse osmosis seawater desalination technology, will have a potable water capacity of up to 450,000 cu m per day on completion, the utility provider said in a statement.
The consortium will be responsible for the development, design, financing, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the desalination plant near Ar Rayyis that will provide potable water to Makkah and Madinah regions.
The project will include storage tanks with two-day water capacity and use solar power to reduce electricity consumption, the statement added.
