Al-Jafurah unconventional gas field in the Eastern Province will boost Saudi Arabia’s position to become the world’s third gas producer by 2030, according to Saudi ministry of energy.
Located in southeast of Ghawar, Al-Jafurah is expected to produce 130,000 barrels per day of ethane. It will also help cut the burning rate of liquid fuel by 70% by 2030, as well as carbon dioxide emissions by 160 million tons.
In addition, the field will provide 230,000 job opportunities
Saudi Aramco expected the field to start production by 2024, as the Jafurah deposits are estimated to hold 200 trillion cubic feet of wet gas and the phased development is expected to gradually increase production to 2.2 trillion cubic feet by 2036 if fully completed, Argaam reported.
