Saudi banks’ retail, corporate mortgage loans rise 33% to SAR 329.3 bln in Q1 2020

Mortgage loans provided to retail and corporate clients by commercial banks in Saudi Arabia saw an increase of 33% year-on-year (YoY) to SAR 329.3 billion in Q1 2020, according to data issued by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA).

 

Loans to retail clients, representing 68% of the total mortgage loans, jumped 49% YoY to SAR 225.1 billion in Q1 2020. Corporate mortgage loans grew by 7% YoY to SAR 104.2 billion.

On the other side, consumer loans increased by 5% YoY to reach SAR 335.7 billion in the first quarter.

 

They include cars and equipment loans, as well as travel, education, and home improvement loans, among others.

Credit card loans rose by 30% by the end of Q1 2020 to SAR 20.29 billion from SAR 15.63 billion in Q1 2019.
