Saudi Airlines Cargo Co. (SACC) witnessed a significant growth on higher e-commerce demand amid the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, said Abdul Rahman Al Mubarak, Chief Business Development and Commercial Affairs.

Speaking at a seminar titled “Incentives and initiatives to support the transport and logistics sector” organized by the Ministry of Investment, he added that the company’s operations were not affected by crisis.

Al Mubarak also noted that the 2019-2021 expansionary plan of Saudi Arabian Logistics Co. (SAL), the cargo logistics arm of national carrier Saudi Arabian Airlines, includes investing more than SAR 1.4 billion in building new cargo facilities and stations at major international airports.

He further explained that the current capacity of the Kingdom's airports stands at about 880,000 tons annually, expecting a growth to 1.9 million tons by 2021.

Al Mubarak also forecast SAL to witness a steady growth in the coming years by more than 6.9%, in line with government’s initiatives to enable the logistics sector.

On the company’s project, he added that the new center at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh is all set to facilitate air cargo services, noting that the new center in Jeddah will be launched in Q4 2020.
