The point-of-sale (POS) transactions edged down 0.5% to SAR 7.26 billion in the week ending June 20, 2020, from SAR 7.30 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 46.7 million transactions were processed in the week ending June 20.

The POS sales of major sectors were mixed in the week ending June 20, with the education sector recording the biggest drop of 34% in transactions value. It was followed by the recreation and culture sector with (-9%) and telecommunications (-7%).
Jewelry was the top riser with an increase of 11%, followed by construction materials (+7%).
Consumer spending focused on food & beverages sector in the week ending June 20, valued at nearly SAR 1.13 billion, followed by construction materials with SAR 642.6 million and transportation with SAR 568.5 million.
