Saudi Electricity implements SAR 1.3 bln projects to serve Hajj 2020 pilgrims

Saudi Electricity Co. (SEC) announced that operational plans of Hajj 2020 are complete and will provide Hajj sites with reliable electricity service for the comfort of pilgrims, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

 

The available generation capacity dedicated to serving pilgrims reached 21,000 megawatts (MW), while the peak is unlikely to exceed 16,000 MW.

 

The head of the western sector in SEC, Abdul Salam bin Rashid Al-Omari, said the number of new electrical projects in the generation, transmission and distribution, implemented during the current year in Makkah and the holy sites, were built at the cost of SAR 1.3 billion, in preparation for the Hajj season.

 

Mobile transmission stations were completed at the Hajj sites at the cost of SAR 56 million, while the cost of 733 distribution stations and 844-kilometre medium voltage lines reached SAR 308 million.

 

In addition, a high-voltage station and 19-km high-voltage lines were implemented for SAR 386 million. Another 380kV high-voltage station and 78-km high-voltage lines were completed at the cost of SAR 548 million.
