The point-of-sale (POS) transactions rose by 20% to SAR 8.2 billion in the week ending August 1, 2020, from SAR 6.8 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) showed.
The increase in POS was attributed to rise in sales during Eid Al-Adha holiday.
Data showed that a total of 68.3 million transactions were processed in the week ending August 1.

The POS sales of the majority of sectors grew during the week ending August 1, with the clothes and footwear sector rising 56%, followed by the recreation & culture sector with 44%. Meanwhile, five sectors declined over the same week, led by the education sector with 30%.
Consumer spending focused on food & beverages sector in the week ending August 1, valued at nearly SAR 1.4 billion, followed by the clothes and footwear sector with SAR 1.1 billion, and the restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 1.08 billion.
