The point-of-sale (POS) transactions dropped 26% to around SAR 6 billion in the week ending August 8, 2020, from SAR 8.2 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) showed.
POS transactions increased in the previous week due to higher purchases on Eid Al Adha.
Data showed that a total of 57.2 million transactions were processed in the week ending August 8.

The POS sales of the majority of sectors declined during the week ending August 8, with the education sector down by around 59%, followed by clothes and footwear (around 56%). Construction materials rose by nearly 9%, and hotels increased by 13%
Consumer spending focused on food & beverages sector in the week ending August 8, valued at nearly SAR 1.05 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 929.4 million and healthcare (SAR 501.9 million).
