Saudi Arabia approves new anti-concealment law with aggravated penalties

Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet passed on Tuesday the new anti-concealment (tasattur) law.

 

The Ministry of Commerce and Investment explained that the new law includes aggravated penalties of five-year sentences and up to SAR 5 million fines for violators.

 

Under the previous law, legal penalties against violators were stipulated at two-year imprisonment and a fine of SAR 1 million per offender.

 

The new law also stipulates proactive measures to prevent cover-up crimes, with rewards for those reporting cover-up cases of up to 30% of the total collected fine, following the final judgement.

 

Earlier this week, Saudi Arabia's King Salman issued directives on setting up a ministerial committee to oversee the national anti-commercial concealment program.
