The Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul) launched the derivatives market today, Aug. 30, 2020. The MT30 Index futures will be traded as the first exchange-traded derivatives product.

The MT30, a joint tradable index co-developed with MSCI Inc., targets the top 30 companies listed on Tadawul, which are the largest in terms of market value and the most active. The index applies a maximum limit on the weights of these companies.

The MT30 index was calculated retrospectively for a period of five years on a base date of Nov. 26, 2013, with a base value of 1,000 points.

The TASI index will continue to be used and available with other market indices, and the MT30 index will have a complementary role to those indices which provides investors with more information about the most solvent listed companies.

MSCI is performing the index calculation process according to the approved methodology. It will also review the index on a quarterly basis at the end of the last working day of May, August, November and February, in conjunction with the MSCI global financial market indices review.

The index serves international and local investment institutions as the basis for the various financial products of derivatives and ETFs, in addition to other users of analysts, researchers and financial market experts.

The first financial product to be based on the MT30 Index will be the index futures contracts that were launched today.

The top 10 companies accounted for 70.63% of the index weight by the end of June 2020.
