The point-of-sale (POS) transactions rose by 30% to SAR 8.55 billion in the week ending August 29, 2020, from SAR 6.60 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 65.2 million transactions were processed in the week ending August 29.

The POS sales of the majority of sectors rose during the week ending Aug. 29, except for hotels sector which ebbed by 1%.
The education sector topped the higher sectors by about 308%, through sales amounting to SAR 757.5 million, followed by recreation & culture and telecommunications sectors, which saw 72% and 54% increase, respectively.
The new academic session in Saudi Arabia started at the beginning of the current week (remotely).
Consumer spending focused on food & beverages sector during the same week, valued at nearly SAR 1.43 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 958.1 million and the education sector with SAR 757.5 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with SAR 2.82 billion, representing 33% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with over SAR 1.39 billion.
