Saudi Cabinet says vehicle lease contracts ‘documented’ in terms of proof, enforcement

02/09/2020 Argaam

The Saudi Cabinet approved on Sept. 2 that vehicle rental agreements - signed by parties through the portal of the Public Transport Authority (PTA) - shall be deemed a “documented contract” in terms of proof and enforcement, the state-owned SPA reported.

Saleh Al-Jasser, Saudi Minister of Transport, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the PTA, described the decision as a qualitative shift in the vehicle rental industry regulation.

A documented agreement in terms of proof and enforcement will guarantee the parties’ rights. It will also increase consumer confidence in the sector.

The rental agreements will initially cover vehicle rentals, ahead of including trucks and buses going forward, Al-Jasser added.
