The point-of-sale (POS) transactions fell by 13% to SAR 7.33 billion in the week ending Sept. 12, 2020, from SAR 8.45 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 67.4 million transactions were processed in the week ending Sept. 12.

Majority of the sectors witnessed a decline in POS sales during the week ending Sept. 12, led by the education sector by 57%, with sales amounting to SAR 216.1 million, followed by the recreation & culture sector by 22%, and then the hotels sector by 15%.
Consumer spending focused on food & beverages sector during the same week valued at nearly SAR 1.17 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 955 million and the healthcare sector with SAR 629.8 million.
