Unemployment rate in Saudi Arabia hits 15.4% in Q2 2020

The unemployment rate among Saudis rose to 15.4% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) in Q2 2020, compared to 11.8% in Q1 2020, according to data from the Saudi General Authority for Statistics.

 

In addition, unemployment rate among males and females stood at 8.1% and 31.4%, respectively in the same period.

 

Meanwhile, unemployment rate among all residents (15 years and above) increased to 9% from 5.7% by the end of Q2 2020.

The total number of employed individuals across the Kingdom stood at13.63 million in Q2 2020. Males accounted for 82%, or 11.16 million of total labor force, while females represented 18%, or 2.47 million.

 

Meanwhile, employed expats accounted for nearly 10.46 million, representing 76.7% of the total employees, while nationals accounted for 23.2%, or 3.17 million.

 

A total of 8.65 million workers, or 63.4% of total labor force, are subject to the regulations of the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI), while 9.4% are subject to the rules of the Civil Service. Meanwhile, 27.2% of total labor force represents domestic workers.
