The point-of-sale (POS) transactions rose by 12% to SAR 7.68 billion in the week ending Sept. 26, 2020, from SAR 6.88 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 67 million transactions were processed in the week ending Sept. 26.

The POS of the majority of sectors rose during the week ending Sept. 26, except for education, public utilities, telecommunications and transport.
Hotels sector led the increased sectors by a 51% rise through sales of SAR 160.4 million, followed by furniture and clothes and footwear, with an increase of 35%, each.
Consumer spending focused on food & beverages sector during the same week, valued at nearly SAR 1.15 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 1.03 billion and the healthcare sector with SAR 683.8 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with SAR 2.48 billion, representing 32% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with over SAR 1.29 billion.
