The point-of-sale (POS) transactions declined by 18% to reach SAR 7.39 billion in the week ending Oct. 10, 2020, from SAR 9.03 billion in the previous week, according to the data issued by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA).
Data showed that a total of 69.8 million transactions were processed in the week ending Oct. 10.

All sectors witnessed a decrease in POS sales during the week ending Oct. 10.
Education sector topped the declining sectors, with 33%, through SAR 83.1 million sales. It was followed by Miscellaneous Goods & Services sector and Food & Beverages sector with 25% each.
Consumer spending focused on Food & Beverages sector during the same week, with nearly SAR 1.18 billion, followed by Restaurants & Cafes sector with SAR 996.4 million and the Healthcare sector with SAR 652.2 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with SAR 2.41 billion, representing 33% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.22 billion.
