The point-of-sale (POS) transactions fell by 3% to SAR 6.71 billion in the week ending Oct. 24, 2020, from SAR 6.92 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 65.4 million transactions were processed in the week ending Oct. 24.

All sectors witnessed a decline in POS sales during the week, except for the telecommunications which rose by 5%, jewelry (3%) and furniture (2%).
Education sector led the decline with 9% or POS transactions worth SAR 47.8 million, followed by fuel stations (7%) and public utilities (6%).
Consumer spending focused on food & beverages sector during the week, valued at nearly SAR 1.08 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 897.6 million and the healthcare sector with SAR 573.4 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with SAR 2.2 billion, representing 33% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with over SAR 1.09 billion.
