The point-of-sale (POS) transactions fell by 11% to SAR 7.98 billion in the week ending Dec. 12, 2020, from SAR 9 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 76.5 million transactions were processed in the week ending Dec. 12.

All sectors witnessed a decline in POS sales during the week, dragged by clothes and footwear which fell by 17%, followed by electronics and electric appliances (16%).
Consumer spending focused on food & beverages sector during the week, valued at nearly SAR 1.19 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 1.05 billion and clothes and footwear sector with SAR 723.2 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with SAR 2.61 billion, representing 33% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with over SAR 1.30 billion.
