POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions fell by 6% to SAR 7.48 billion in the week ending Dec. 19, 2020, from SAR 7.98 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 73.1 million transactions were processed in the week ending Dec. 19.

All sectors witnessed a decline in POS sales during the week, except for Construction Materials, which rose slightly during the week ending Dec. 19, 2020.
The Education sector led the decline with a fall of about 15%, with SAR 65.8 million sales. It was followed by the Recreation & Culture sector that eased nearly 14%.
Consumer spending focused on Food & Beverages sector during the week, valued at nearly SAR 1.13 billion, followed by Restaurants & Cafes sector with SAR 994.6 million and Miscellaneous Goods & Services sector with SAR 626.5 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with SAR 2.46 billion, representing 33% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with over SAR 1.23 billion.
