POS transactions fall 21% to SAR 8.52 bln in week ending Jan. 9: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions declined by almost 21% to SAR 8.52 billion in the week ending Jan. 9, 2021, from SAR 10.74 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

 

A total of 81.6 million transactions were processed in the week ending Jan. 9.

All sectors witnessed a decline in POS sales during the week, except for Hotels that jumped by 14%.

 

Education led decliners, falling 60% with sales of SAR 62.1 million, followed by Clothes and Footwear down 33%.

 

Consumer spending focused on Food & Beverages sector during the week, valued at nearly SAR 1.25 billion, followed by Food & Beverages sector with SAR 1.21 billion and Clothes and Footwear sector with SAR 752.5 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with SAR 2.67 billion, representing 31% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with over SAR 1.54 billion.
