Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) is currently in the process of privatizing the production facilities, Deputy Governor Operations & Maintenance Abdullah Al-Zowaid told Argaam.

SWCC will start with the privatization of Ras Al-Khair plant, he added.

The water desalination network comprises the production, transmission and distribution facilities, Al-Zowaid said, adding that the transmission system was initially privatized through setting up the Water Transmission and Technologies Co. (WTTCO).

WTTCO’s cooperation agreement with SWCC in the field of outsourcing management services is the company’s first achievement within the privatization process, following the Saudi Cabinet’s approval.

The agreement entailed a smooth and gradual transition for the management, operation and maintenance of water transmission systems to WTTCO, which will enable it to sign contracts with partners and work on a commercial basis.

WTTCO will help reduce the operating expenses, which will reflect positively on production costs and accordingly the welfare of citizens, Al-Zowaid noted.

Moreover, Al-Zowaid concluded that any operating cost declines in any part of the water system will contribute to slashing costs and tariffs going forward.
